Cookie fixes everything

Had to kick a meth-head off my porch and fix the gate so if more people decide they can just squat or try to break into the 'abandoned' house.

So I think I deserve a cookie (or two) and a glass of milk. Don't like raising my blood pressure. But have to move my ass out of here.. this place is a pit.

The lonely corner of the internet

LJ is all alone in the corner of the internet.

I realize that I have a livejournal account but never post to it. I know that livejournal isn't the hotness that Tumblr or Instragram or Great-fucking-thoughts.com or whatever next thing.

But sorry LJ.. just not as pretty as the other girls and I know how to push the other girl's twitter/facebook buttons. They wriggle in ecstasy but you lay there like a dead fish.

You need to lose some stylesheets and get some pretty dresses for summer. Then we'll see if I put my digits on your text entry fields and tweak your themes.

Been a long time since I've rock n rolled

Haven’t blogged in a very long time… not like there hasn’t been a lot going on but have to make the time for that kinda thing.

So now I’ll take a percentage of my time and write some shit. Might even be interesting.

Despite her injured leg, she is a healthy and incredibly friendly kitten. My sister said the vet had a hard time hearing her heartbeat because she was purring so loudly.

Now, here's the crazy part.

If you get angry easily, you better sit down for this.

The problem with her leg?

She was shot. Her tiny leg is full of shrapnel from the elbow joint down. It's likely she'll have to have it amputated.

I have no words. A kitten. SHOT.

She will have a consultation with an orthopedic surgeons soon to see what, if anything, can be done for her leg. The current estimate for surgery is $1500. That is just the surgery and does not include today's exam and tests or having her spayed, which sounds like it will have to be after her leg has healed.

In defiance of the completely heartless idiot did this to her we, my friends, will do our best to put this right. My sister and her husband are keeping Lily. She has a good home, now we just need to help her get the care she needs. I have pledged to help my sister and her hubby in any way I can so we can help Lily get better and have a healthier, happier life. Altogether, her fees look to be in the $2000 range. She is young, and other than her injury, she is healthy, and she is undeniably a people cat and is already responding well to the love and care she's receiving.

To every single person that has already donated to help Lily, I thank you and my sister sends her thanks. I can't even begin to express in words how much your generosity means to us. We've already raised $140 towards Lily's care, and that is in less than 24 hours. YOU ALL ROCK.

If you're just now finding this story and want to hear the beginning OR make a donation, you can click here for more information.

Lily

I'd like to come up with some other ways to help Lily. If you have a suggestion of something that we can do, please let me know.

The sickness rolled through me in great waves. After each wave it would fade away and leave me limp as a wet leaf and shivering all over and then I would feel it rising up in me again, and the 3d disorienting floor under my feet and over my head and all four sides closed in and squeezed me to pieces.

If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days. :)

Sorry for being cryptic.. no I'm not.

Had a great time this weekend and met so many cool people. Processing my photos and doing Sunday stuff but had to post a few great photos from the con:

Poor Ivan Brandon.. still in good spirits after losing his voice.

Looking forward to next year! There were a few rough edges that the ECCC folks need to work on but expanding to three days was great for the fans.

Happy New Year 2011

Welcome to a New Year of human existence! Guess we haven't got around to destroying each other and zombies haven't eaten our brains. Yay us!

Human race might even make it to the point where we have cool starships and are flying around wearing our space spandex. Then meet new life, find new civilizations and have sex with them! Can't wait until my 5th generation clone can chase some sexy alien tail. Where are the chicks with scales, tails and 3 boobs? Wow that's a very specific fetish now isn't it... lizard fuckers. Guess that isn't too different than the people who have Godzilla fetish and masturbate while wearing giant monster hands. Thanks Warren Ellis!

My big project for the first half of the year is savethestargate.com. Trying to keep Stargate Universe on the air and get it another season or four. Seems like networks have a short attention span these days and disregard influences like moving a show to a different day or some new direction for the Stargate franchise like SGU. They also aren't acknowledging that people watch television shows differently these days. Maybe the time has come for a new studio to come forward to chart a new course in distribution. Partner with Netflix, Google, iTunes and all the other online distribution partners to provide video on demand to setup boxes like Boxee, internet enabled blu-ray players, game consoles (Xbox360,Playstation and Wii) and other devices.

Time for more website development on savethestargate.com .

Ok.. turning my creative brain to 11 and getting some lunch.

Cheers!

The state of Northwest Cider

NW Cider FestRecently went to a cider festival and had my eyes opened to the depth and breath of the fermented beverage called Cider.

There was over 53 different ciders from Oregon, Washington and Vancouver. Also a few guest ciders from England and France. Unfortunately the english ciders were all from Aspall. Didn't go near any of those. The flavor profile Aspall cider is unpleasant in my opinion. It probably has to do with the type of yeast they use to brew their cider. But plenty more to choose from.  Let the tasting begin!

First cider of the day was actually from Michigan. JR's Scrumpy is a organic apple cider and funky midwest name. It has a nice amber color and tends to be a sweet side but not too sweet. Be a really good dessert cider. Made by Almar Orchards.NW Cider Fest

The next cider was from France and called Cidre Tripel. A very strong cider at 10.5% alcohol and certainly could feel it warming up your body as you drank it. It was very dry and had a wine like flavor to it. Made by Dom. Etienne Dupont.

Decided to try a Oregon cider next from Blue Mountain. It was a apple-cherry cider and it got an amazing color from the cherries. It was very sweet, almost too sweet but it could probably be paired with a dark chocolate dessert like a lava cake or brownie.

Another Oregon cider called the Carry Nation had a very fully flavor and something I could drink regularly. Very light in color and perfectly balanced between dry and sweet. Talked to the brewer and he said used champagne yeast to give it the character it has. Made by Carlton Cyderworks. They are trying to get a distributor in Washington. Totally not fair!

Found another unique cider from California called the Lansdowne. It is brewed with stout ale yeast and has a dark rich flavor. It has this amazing apple & stout flavor profile and only a hint of sweetness. From Crispin Cider.. You can find their Honey Crisp cider in QFC.

I decided to taste something from the birthplace of cider.. jolly olde England. Samuel Smiths organic apple cider isn't new but has a really nice light color and dry tangy flavor. Totally see me drinking this over ice on a hot summer day.

Never considered how ginger would go with apples until I tried the Ginger Cider from Eaglemount Wine & Cider. A very nice husband and wife team from a little winery just outside of Port Townsend. The organic ginger was present but not over powering. It was light in color and dry. They said they have a great tasting room and wide selection of wines and ciders.

apple blueberry ciderThe first cider I didn't really care for was from Finnriver Farm & Cidery. It was a apple-blueberry "wine" and it had this vinegary taste that was totally off putting. I'm glad I walked away from the booth because I probably made an ugly face. Ugh!

I need something to get this terrible taste out of my mouth stat!!! So I went back to Carlton Cyderworks and got my self a full glass of the Duke. Another apple-blueberry cider but oh so good! Not too sweet and great blueish color. Went great with my lunch.

I tried another 10 ciders after lunch and was not disappointed with my selections. I'll summarize the rest:

  • Rumrunner from Sea Cider (BC) - Dark, rich, complex cider that packed a punch. Aged in rum barrels.

  • Irvine's vintage from Vashon Winery (WA) - Very dry, light, english style..  reminded me of Blackthorn.

  • Snowdrift Dry from Snowdrift Cider Co (WA) - Dry, light and smooth.

  • Blossom Nectar from Tieton Cider Works (WA) - Sweet but not in a bad way, light color

  • Anthem Hops from Wandering Aengus (OR) - A cider with a twist. They added Golding and Centennial hops. A very balanced flavor with a hint of citrus from the hops.

  • Traditional Med. Sweet from Westcott Bay (WA)- Hint of sweetness, light color and tasty.

  • Pirate's Plank Bone Dry from Wildfire Cider (WA)- Bold, winelike.. like a punch in the mouth without knocking any teeth out. Good flavor curve.

  • Apfelwein also from Wildfire Cider (WA) - Great amber color with strong acidic apple flavor. Totally see this with a big plate of nachos.

  • Citizen from Carlton Cyderworks (OR) - Dry, light and summery.  A nice way to finish off the festival.

I'll have to attend more cider festivals..  so much good stuff out there!
